This was a comment made by a member of the club in the pub at the end of the day - but we did have a great day over all, both the Dragons and Dragonflies.

The day may have started about 7am for a lot of the members,  and ended about 7pm, but was full of a lot of good things through the day.  From the almost perfect paddling weather to the great BBQ cooked by Mandy, Liz and Liz's mum (Rona).

Now to the races, the reason we all work and train hard.

The Flies had the first race of the day (10am) and came up against Amathus and Exe-calibre.  They put in a strong display and time of 54.98 which put them 12th in the Heats.

The Dragons had to wait until the last qualifying heat.  They came up against Secklow 100 and Typhoon Tigers Fury, winning in a time of 52.04 with the 4th fastest time of the day.   Worcester went on to meet  a couple of old foes in the Major final Amathus and Kingston Royals, doing themselves proud with a third place only 0.8 sec's behind the winners.

The afternoon started with  the Dragons and Flies drawn together in Heat 3 of the 450m races, with Notts Anaconda Too making up the race.  Both of the Worcester teams got off to a flying start, with the Dragons getting the joint fastest time of the day with Kingston Royals, (1.32.92) and the flies coming in with 1.42.89 beating Notts to second place in the race.

Strong afternoon performances saw the Flies end the day in the Plate Minor Final, having seen off a number of other second crews.

Despite the Dragons performance in the heats, they were handed the harder of the Cup Semi's, up against Amathus and Typhoon Tigers.  The race was one of the closest that Worcester have been in this season.  Giving both clubs a good run and only losing out on the second Major final of the day by 0.3 sec's to Amathus, still finishing in 1.35.00.

Having already scored maximum points for the day, the Cup Minor final was the end of racing for the Dragons.  Taking on Typhoon and Thames.  Worcester having the middle lane, a good start was required! This was another close race, this time Worcester winning the racing and finishing 4th overall on the day.

The day was finished off with the Spiritz doing an exhibition run on the 200m course.  Pity the GB under 18's were unable to take part.  This was followed by the Ladies race.  Which Worcester put a team in, with the help from Mandy and Carla off Pershore Phoenix.

So, were we robbed? No, but we were unlucky. But despite finish fourth the view from the dragons was that but for an unfortunate semi draw and 1/100 of a second in the heats we could have been in that major final and taking home some well deserved silverware.

We have now got a 5 week break from racing – but no let up from training -  and will hopefully be welcoming back the newly wed's (Rob and Ellie) for Caldecotte on the 13th September. This time no one will be taking our trophies!!!
