Severn Spiritz

Introducing our youth team… of which we are very proud!

Young people from the ages of 12 to 18 years (11 if accompanied by a paddling parent or guardian) have the opportunity to join WDBRC’s Severn Spiritz, who often race as an independent crew at BDA events, or are included in either Worcester Dragons or Worcester Dragonflies, depending on their technical ability and motivation to paddle competitively.

Our Youth Co-ordinator, Karen Snape, is CRB checked (as are all the Management Committee and WDBRC coaches) and highly experienced at supporting new, young paddlers as they integrate with the club and our wider membership.

Severn Spiritz crew members are always chaperoned at race events and we ensure all transportation is with appropriate adult supervision and qualified, insured drivers.

Through our activities with the youth crew, WDBRC aims to help young people engage in sport, develop their team work skills, improve self-esteem, respect for self and others, improve their sense of both physical and mental well-being and develop motivation and goal setting abilities.

We believe being proud of what you achieve is key to feeling valued and valuing your fellow team mates.

WDBRC also works closely with local Community Support Officers to encourage and engage disadvantaged young people into positive participation as a key part of the clubs activities and we often can provide bursaries to help with membership and race fees.
